Do yourself a favour and DO NOT install Windows 7 if your broadband provider is Bigpond (Telstra).

Currently, a lot of the Telstra modems do not have compatible Windows 7 drivers. Sure, there are workarounds for people with a bit of technical knowledge but for the average Joe it’s not a good idea. Also, it would be nice for places like Harvey Norman to tell people who are buying new computers about the problem. What could be worse for the man off the street than buying a new laptop for his kid as a Christmas present only to find out that it doesn’t work on Christmas Day..?

A new aboriginal art gallery has opened up in Palm Cove. Pandanus Gallery deal direct with the indigenous artists and provide exhibitions and promotions for upcoming aboriginal artists.

We’ve been lucky enough to create their website which links with the Artists Management System used by aboriginal communities throughout Australia.

Are there any benefits in using subdomains for the purpose of website search optimisation?

The answer is yes, but with a few reservations. A subdomain is a domain that is part of a larger domain. For example “serivces.seo.com” is a subdomain of the “seo.com”. At present, a maximum of two results can appear for a domain in the top 10. There is one exception that applies only to major portals such as Amazon, Ebay, About.com etc.

Search Engine Land advice is to use subdomains when you have very disparate content that you feel searchers would feel relevant. For instance, if you have a travel site, it may make sense to use subdomains to categorize cities. Recommending further that for each search query that you want to list, make sure that you have one or two pages that you most want to rank for those terms and focus on optimizing those with keywords, anchor text, and links. Know that every page on your site won’t rank for each query, so decide which are the most relevant

What’s Your Favourite Web Browser

We’re interested in what you people out there are using to surf the web so tell us what your favourite web browser is.
Personally, I use Firefox when I’m developing websites because it’s the most reliable for CSS layouts. Then I use the Windows version of Safari for general web browsing because I like the way it looks and I’m sure it renders faster than other browsers. Then I use Google Chrome when I remember that I’ve got it. And finally, I use Internet Explorer when websites haven’t been designed properly and they only work in that and nothing else.

Facebook ‘Violates Privacy Laws’

A Canadian privacy group has filed a complaint against the social networking site Facebook accusing it of violating privacy laws. The Canadian Internet Policy and Public Interest Clinic has listed 22 separate breaches of privacy law in its country.

Clinic Director Phillipa Lawson told the BBC that, with over 7 million users in Canada, “Facebook needs to be held publicly accountable”. Facebook rejects the charge, claiming some of the highest standards around. The basis of the complaint, filed with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner, states that Facebook collects sensitive information about its users and shares it without their permission. It goes on to say that the company does not alert users about how that information is being used and does not adequately destroy user data after accounts are closed.
